Why “Create a Moment of Stillness” Became Part of Hitah
“Create a moment of stillness” is more than a phrase for Hitah. It grew quietly from a very personal need of the founder( Dr. Malancha Sarkar), the need to find a small space within life where nothing had to be accomplished, managed, answered, or taken care of.
For many years, life was wonderfully full, but also relentlessly busy.
There were two children to raise, a home to nurture, and the everyday rhythm of family life shaped by culture, tradition, and responsibility.
Alongside home was a demanding full-time academic career. Teaching at a university meant facing hundreds of students, preparing lectures, answering questions, meeting expectations, and carrying the responsibility that comes with being an educator. It was stimulating and meaningful work, but it required an enormous amount of mental presence.
Then there were all the other roles that quietly fill a woman’s life.
Trying to be a good wife and a good daughter to parents living thousands of miles away in India. None of these responsibilities felt unimportant. Quite the opposite. They were important precisely because they involved people she loved and responsibilities she valued.
But somewhere between nurturing, teaching, answering, organizing, supporting, and constantly moving to the next thing, a simple question disappeared:
Where was the person underneath all these roles?
At some point, the founder of Hitah realized that she had almost forgotten who she was when she was not being a mother, wife, daughter, teacher, and a homemaker.
She did not need to abandon those roles. She needed moments in which there were no roles at all.
A few quiet minutes. A candle flame. A gentle fragrance. A familiar sound. Sitting without needing to achieve anything. Watching the mind slowly settle after decades of being trained to move from one responsibility to another.
That longing became part of the philosophy behind Hitah.
Stillness does not necessarily require a retreat to the mountains or hours of meditation. Sometimes it begins with something much smaller: consciously creating a few minutes in an ordinary room during an ordinary day.
This is why Hitah’s products often return to simple sensory experiences like gentle flame, fragrance, natural materials, and objects that invite us to slow down. They are not meant to promise transformation. They simply help create an environment in which we may turn our attention inward for a while.
Because life will continue to ask things of us. Families will need us. Work will need us. Dreams will need our effort.
But somewhere within all that doing, perhaps we can preserve a little space simply for being.
That is how “Create a Moment of Stillness” became part of Hitah.
It began as the founder’s personal search for herself again—and grew into a quiet invitation to others to find a few moments of their own.
